Beautiful You Card

Beautiful You Card

Hi Everyone,

I have a real soft spot for dimensional flowers so I couldn’t resist making one for the focal point of the card. It was made from the beautiful Pretty Petals stamp and die set of Concord & 9th.

When you receive the Concord & 9th Pretty Petals dies, the outer outline of flower die and the die that cuts the individual petals are nested together to save space. I really liked how it looked together and as an extra bonus, they were perfectly spaced. So, I kept the 2 dies nested together (did not snip them apart – but no problem if they are apart, you can still nest them together and add a little tape to hold them in place). Using white card stock, I cut 2. This gave me 2 outlines of the flower and lots of individual inner petals that I set aside and did not use for this project.

Now that the outlines are prepared, it was on to creating the vellum interiors of the flowers. These were made by first spritzing vellum paper with a few Shimmerz sprays. These sprays are so easy to apply, just a few spritz and you are done! I used Cotton Candy, Blushing Bride and Walking a Heliotrope.

After the Shimmerz paints were dry, I cut out 2 blossoms from the spritzed vellum, using the solid flower die (see above-the one on the right)  and then glued them to the back of each flower outline.

I was ready to stack them to make the flower but when I did, I discovered there were too many petals, so I cut out 3 of the smaller ones (see illustration) on each blossom and then stacked and glued them together, making one flower.

The center of the flower was made by using the center stamp from the Pretty Petals stamp set. There is a die provided it the die set that cuts the center of the flower and you can certainly use it. It does eliminate the need for the stamp set altogether.  Since I already had the stamp set, I chose to use the larger center of the flower stamp.  I stamped it on some cardstock, then fussy cut it out. I know that sounds a bit crazy but I loved the effect. After it was cut out, I glued it to the center of the flower and accented it with Black Diamond Stickles.

Believe it or not, the card is nearly done. It was just a matter of a few quick steps. First, I cut some black and vellum leaves using the Penny Black Leaves Creative die set (I love these!) and cut the sentiment from the Concord & 9th Beautiful You die set.

Next, I cut a white cardstock panel from Neenah white card stock using the Lawn Fawn Rectangle stackables, splattered it with black watercolor paint. After it was dry, I mounted it onto a white card stock base and adhered the leaves, flower and sentiment.

The only thing left was to add a few black gem sparkles and a few loops of white iridescent thread from the fabric store.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. This stamp and die set really makes a magnificent flower!
