Hi Crafty Friends,
Today we are sharing a card design that uses the Penny Black Winter Trees die and distress inks. With just these two main ingredients you can create a dramatic scene. Check out how to make it happen below.
But before we jump in, just a few things to let you know about. If you don’t know already, today is the last day of the Black Friday to Cyber Monday Sale. This is a great opportunity to get those items you have been dying for (coupon code at the end of this post).
We are officially in the holiday season. With that in mind, if you are looking for the perfect gift for your crafty friends and family but don’t know what to give, a gift certificate is the perfect answer. You can choose the amount, personalize it with your own message and we will do the rest. Pop over here to check it out.
Now, without further delay, let’s get to our project!
This card design starts with the background. You can use any of your favorite colors schemes. For mine, I chose to use Seedless Preserves, Aged Mahogany, Festive Berries, Picked Raspberry, and Worn Lipstick distress inks.
I began with a piece of Bristol paper for easy blending. But before I started to blend my inks, I first placed a circle of masking paper for the moon. This will give it a distinct round, full moon look.
Next, starting at the bottom of the panel, I began applying the inks with a blending tool. First, I used Seedless Preserves and gradually added the colors in the order given above. So, next was Aged Mahogany, then Festive Berries, Picked Raspberry and finally Worn Lipstick, making sure each color blends into the other seamlessly.
Now for the big reveal, I peeled off the circle mask paper and very lightly added Antique Linen over the whole moon. Then, added strands of Worn Lipstick and a little of Seedless Preserves toward the bottom. When the panel was completely dry, I splattered it with Dr. Ph. Martin Bleedproof White ink.
With the panel set aside to dry again, I cut the tree and bird out of Neenah white cardstock and the Penny Black Winter Trees die. Next, I tore the long edge of a piece of white cardstock for a snowy looking edge and stamped the Peace + Joy sentiment with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Rose Gold embossing powder.
The card is ready to assemble. I used a white cardstock card base, added a slightly smaller white cardstock panel and set that aside for a moment while I assembled the colored panel.
To the colored panel, I first adhered a foam panel on the back so it will pop up. Then, I glued the sentiment strip at the bottom of the panel and added the tree near the edge. The bird was attached with a bit of foam tape to add more dimension.I lightly spritzed the colored panel with a mini mister filled with a mixture of Pearl Perfect Pearls and water for some extra sparkle. This panel was now complete and was added on top of the already created card base and panel.
And there we have it, another Holiday card ready to send -YAY!
This card is so eye catching with your amazing sky. Thank you so much for sharing the directions on doing this, not sure when but I hope to try it myself. The design of the card is perfect, love every inch of it.
Thanks so much for your kind words!
Wow! I love the colours you used! It is so dramatic with the large moon & then the white tree with the popped up bird. Your blending really is seamless. You should be so very proud of this fabulous card you’ve created. I know I would be. I have a question though. When you spritz a mix of water & perfect pearls powder, do you have to dry it with a heat gun? I made a card not long ago using the spritz of perfect pearls & even the next day it would rub off if you touched the front of the card. It was disappointing. Again, fabulous fabulous card!
Hey, thanks so much! And, by the way, I spritzed it very lightly and from high up, so it didn’t mess up the inked background, then I made sure it was very dry before touching it again. When I followed those steps it worked swimmingly! Thanks for asking.
STUNNING! it takes my breath away. The rich colors, the contrast of the moon and simple die cut truly make a statement. WOW! So simple yet so impactful.
