Up, Up & Away with Town Bear and Rosali

Hi Everyone,

You are in for a special treat today! Rosali of ilovestamping (Instagram) has created the most adorable card using My Favorite Things Town Bear stamp and die set.  She conjured up all her creative magic and cuteness for this project!

Take a look at how she did it, then pop over to her Instagram page and see all the other wonderful projects she has dreamed up!

Hi there, it’s Rosali again! I am back with another cute card featuring My Favorite Things stamps and dies as well as my beloved Distress Oxide Inks. 😀

Let’s dive right into it, shall we?

There is this bear in MFT’s “Town Bear” set that is holding up his one arm and I thought it would be cute to let him hold a bunch of balloons to make it look like he is flying! I went through my stash of stamps and picked the star balloons from MFT’s “Space Explorer” to combine with the bear.

To build my background scene I started off with stamping the houses and trees from “Town Bear” onto my panel of Neenah 80lb cardstock. For the sky, I took the bigger cloud from “Knight in Shining Armor” and stamped it three times. To decide where I would place them I also laid down the bear and his balloons onto the panel. Since I wanted to do some ink blending over the background I stamped houses, trees, and clouds again on masking paper, fussy cut them with my craft scissors and put the masks over the images. Here is how my layout looked like thus far:

I didn’t know exactly where and how I would add my sentiment at that point but I would figure that out later. For the ink blending, I chose Lucky Clover, Cracked Pistachio, and Broken China Oxide Inks – they blend really easy on Neenah paper! I also added some Blueprint Sketch from the traditional Distress Ink line to the very top of the panel and also for some splattering over the sky. I addition I added splatters with water all over the panel.

I decided to color the background images all grey with different Copic Cold Grey markers – that way my bear and the colorful ink blending would stay the star of the show. ;D

For the bear and balloons, I also used Copics to lay down a basic color shading and then used colored pencils on top. I really like the contrast pencil coloring adds to an image. Instead of colored pencils, you could also use watercolor pencils, in this case, just don’t add any water and keep your pencils sharp. For the highlights on the balloons and the bear’s nose, I used a white gel pen. And lastly, I couldn’t resist adding some sparkle with Wink Of Stella to the balloons and the bear’s nose.

Hint: I decided to stamp my sentiment directly onto the ink blended panel. Because dye inks do not stand out much on top of Distress Oxide Inks I used Staz On instead and it came out nice and sharp!

Have a great day and see you soon!

  1. I never would have thought of combining oxide inks and watercolor pencils but the end product is nothing short of delightful. THANKS for the nudge to get me thinking more out of the box! Afterall this is art. Anything goes!

    1. Mixing mediums is always a fun new craft experiment! 🙂 I used Copics + Oxide Inks for the background and Copics + pencils for the bear image. Thank you so much for the comment, I appreciate it!
