Shimmery Big Balloon

Shimmery Big Balloon

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today’s project is a quick and easy one that creates an amazing birthday or special occasion card. I don’t know about you but that is right up my alley! It seems I or someone in my family is always scrambling to find a handmade birthday card to give so this Papertrey Ink – Ink To Paper Big Balloon Cover Plate is perfect to create an awesome card in a hurry! (My only regret is that the camera just didn’t pick up all the iridescent colors the glitter paper gives – that paper just makes it jump!)

In last month’s Papertrey Ink – Ink To Paper release, there was a series of Big Balloon stamps, stencils, and dies that help you to make a great round balloon card. This project uses a few of them, along with some specialty papers to give it a special, shimmery look.

So, let’s start out by stamping g a big, round balloon by using the largest balloon stamp in the Big Balloon stamp set and a piece of cold-pressed watercolor paper. I stamped mine with Hawaiian Shores ink. Once stamped, I smooched more ink onto my work surface, loosened it up with a little water, and painted in more color, especially around the edges of the balloon. I also painted in a knotted end to my balloon.

While the balloon was drying. I also cut a panel using the Big Balloon Cover Plate and a piece of Quartz Shimmer cardstock. Then, cut the top balloon portion of the panel from a piece of watercolor paper so I could use the three top balloons. These were painted with the same smooching technique as before with Green Parakeet, Summer Sunrise, and a mix of Aqua Mist and Hawaiian Shores ink.

Once the big balloon was dry, I stamped ‘Celebrate” from the Big Balloon sentiment stamp set onto the balloon by first prepping the paper with a generous amount of anti-static powder, then stamping with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder. The cool thing about this sentiment set is that it is complete with tons of sentiments for just about any occasion!

I added a few dots to the big balloon using the Big Balloon stencils: Dots and opaque texture paste and set that aside to dry while I stamped a balloon string with a little yellow paper onto a scrap of watercolor paper, then painted over it with Finetec gold paint (this is amazing paint – so rich and beautiful). At the same time, I cut out a bow and streamers from the matching die set and painted those with gold paint.

With all the components done, I was ready to assemble. Using a white card base, I added a slightly smaller Candy Necklace blue card stock panel, then a white glittery panel on top of that. The shimmery Quartz Shimmer Big Balloon panel that was cut earlier was stacked and glued on top. The green, orange-yellow, and blue balloons were pressed in place with foam tape. The giant balloon and it’s string and streamers were added with foam tape and glue to complete the card.

I hope you enjoyed this project and will give it a whirl. The fantastic thing about these stamp sets is that they can be used for so many different occasions and limitless color schemes.
