Stunning Starry Skies by Heather Telford

Hi Crafty Friends,

It is always a special day when we get to feature one of Heather Telford‘s card designs. And, we are especially lucky today since she is sharing two gorgeous designs using the Concord & 9th Star Turnabout stamp and die set.

To create these beautiful designs, she is using the new watercolors from Altenew for the dreamy blue sky and black cardstock for the striking midnight sky. I am not sure which I like best, do you?

The one thing I do know though, you can never go wrong with any of Heather’s creations! Be sure to pop over to her blog… but only after you have soaked in all the beauty of these new designs here.

Happy New Year, my crafting friends, I hope it is off to a great start. I am thrilled to be sharing here on the Foiled Fox blog again. I have some new paints and a turn-about stamp to introduce to you.
To create this card I started with a 6″x6″ panel of cold pressed watercolor paper in my MISTI and both sections of the ‘Star Turnabout stamp set positioned as described in the stamp set instructions. I won’t go into detail about turnabout stamps here because there are very helpful videos available and Concord & 9th have released a jig also to make it even easier to create with their stamps.

I wanted a sky full of shiny stars so I stamped each turn with Versamark then embossed with four different embossing powders, one on each ‘turn’ of the stamp. I embossed in clear powder first, turned the panel, stamped then embossed in silver, turned stamped, embossed in gold and finally turned stamped and embossed in platinum. Because my paper had some texture to it some of the stars look a little distressed but that didn’t worry me; those ones appeared further away.

Once all my embossing was done I taped the panel down to my glass mat and used some blues from the Altenew watercolor paint set. The set is made up of the same colours Altenew have in their ink range designed to give you shades that work together and range in depth of color. I used several blues and a couple of aquas adding water here and there to blend the colors together.

I let the panel dry, trimmed it down and worked on creating a bold sentiment. I cut a little banner and embossed part of a sentiment from the MFT set ‘Birdie Brown Greetings Galore’ then paired it with silver letters die cut with MFT ‘little lower case letters’ out of Tonic  Silver Silk Luxury Embossed card stock. To get the letters as straight as possible I lined them up along my T-ruler. I also cut some stars from silver cardstock using the C&9 coordinating ‘Turnabout star die’ then stuck them randomly on the panel. I framed the whole panel with the same blue cardstock used for my banner. The card is quite large and will just fit into a 6″x6″ envelope.

I decided to do a similar card without watercolor so embossed the stars on black cardstock in gold, silver, platinum and gun metal embossing powder. The letters are cut from gold cardstock and the panel framed with the same. Maybe the black one will work for a ‘Harry Potter’ fan; what do you think?
