Sweet Centerpiece

Sweet Centerpiece

Hi Creative Friends,

I have been craving making floral cards lately and I can’t think of a more perfect place to find beautiful floral stamps than Penny Black. The stamp I used for this project was Sweet Centerpiece and it features a glorious mixed bouquet of flowers.

I started by mounting the stamp in my stamp positioner, then stamped the image using Versafine Black Onyx onto a watercolor panel. Again, I chose to use the Karin watercolor markers to color. I am addicted to using them! The brush tip with their nice point makes it easy to get watercolor paint into small areas and the color saturation and blend-ability are awesome!

To color, I just moisten one flower at a time with a brush and water, add a little color at the base of each flower, then blend it out with a wet brush.

Once the panel was completely colored and dry, I thought I would be clever and cut half the white background off and mount a background panel on the other half but things didn’t quite go as planned. I did end up with that look but when I cut half the panel off and cut around one side of the flowers, I didn’t like how it looked. So, in an effort to save my work, I fussy cut around the whole bouquet. This gave me more freedom to create.

But in the end, I stuck to the plan to have half the card feature another background. So, I stamped one of my favorite backgrounds, Lined by Hand by My Favorite Things (see supply list) onto a Luxe gray cardstock panel using Versamark ink, then white heat embossed it. It is super important to generously prep the paper with anti-static powder before stamping so you get a clean embossed image!

Using an A2 white card base, I mounted a panel of pink cardstock to the front, then added the Lined by Hand panel where I cut a tiny bit off on the sides. Next, I mounted a small panel of white card stock on top, then added the floral display using foam squares.

To complete the card, I added a shadow using my soft lead pencil and blended it out using a blending stump. For the sentiment, I searched through my stash of sentiments and found this “Just Because” that I had stamped previously. I think it was from the Papertrey Ink Lush stamp and die set but any sentiment you have and like will do!

This completes this project. I hope you enjoyed it and will join me again soon for another creative adventure!
