Two MFT Funky Flowers & Bundle of Blossoms Cards

This is a quick post to spotlight My Favorite Things (MFT) Funky Flowers stamp and die set and the Bundle of Blossoms background stamp.  These two handmade cards are both super easy to do.

First, is the black and white version.  I love black and white things so it is no surprise that I found a way to make it happen.

This was a simple card using a 5.5″ x 5.5″ black cardstock card base.  To begin, I stamped the front of the card base with the My Favorite Things BB Bundle of Blossoms background stamp, using VersaMark Watermark ink pad.  Then, embossed it with Hero Arts White Embossing Powder and heat set it with the heat tool.

Next, I stamped the flowers and leaves from the My Favorite Things Funky Flowers stamp set onto Neenah Solar white cardstock. Using Archival Jet Black ink, I stamped a bunch of them because I never know what I am going to use and I know whatever is left over a little granddaughter will come along and claim them for her very own.  If you don’t have a ‘little thief” (haha) like Mackenzie, then you can save them for later.

Using a very watered down black watercolor to create the gray (and using little water so not to mess up the paper), I lightly watercolored the flowers and leaves just to give a little highlight and depth.  I cut out the pieces with the coordinating die set and arranged them on the card base.  The white frame in the background was a leftover from cutting out a Lawn Fawn scalloped panel – as you can see, I don’t throw any scrap away that remotely have promise.  Some of the flowers are double-stacked, meaning I added another identical flower on top of the original but slightly offset to give it twice as many petals.

I arranged the frame, flowers, and leaves on the card base.  Some of the flowers are adhered with foam tape to add dimension.

Finally, I cut the Altenew “Thanks”   from both pink and black and glued them together slightly offset so the black creates a shadow effect.  This was then mounted with foam tape on top of the flowers.  I slathered clear Wink of Stella on the “Thanks”, added a few pearl and black gem embellishments and called it DONE!

Thinking of You 

Here is a super simple card using the My Favorite Things (MFT) BB Bundle of Blossoms background stamp.  The card is made from a black Neenah 110lb. cardstock 5.5″ x 5.5″ card base.  The front panel of the card is made using a 5″ x 5″ piece of watercolor paper.  I used the color resist method by stamping this watercolor paper panel with the Bundle of Blossoms stamp,  using a clear VersaMark Watermark ink pad.  I then added white embossing powder and heat set it with my heat tool.

Having applied just enough clean, clear water to the flowers and leaves so the paper is damp but not swimming in water, I started coloring a diagonal section with my watercolor paints.  After the flowers and leaves were dry, I applied clean water to the background, careful not to get the flowers or leaves wet.  Then with very watery black paint I painted the background – applying more color in the areas I wanted and blotting off the color where I wanted less.

While the panel was drying, I hand lettered in gold, using the Finetec Artist Mica Watercolor Set,  the Thinking of You sentiment on a 1″ strip of vellum.  For an extra bit of gold, I ran a brush with the gold paint along the edge of the vellum so it created a gold edge.

After the ink and the watercolor panel were dry, I positioned the vellum strip in place and folded over the edges to the back of the watercolor panel – taped it in place on the back.  For added dimension, a piece of craft foam was taped to the back of the watercolor panel, then the panel was taped to the card base.  (My favorite method to adhere a panel to a card base is to use double-tack tape – see in the supply list below).

The final touch was to tie some of the gold DMC thread to the vellum for an accent on the side.

Confession:  For the eagle-eyed among you, you may have noticed that the black card base had a pattern to it.  I had stamped the front of the card base using the background stamp and Versafine ink.  I sprinkled clear embossing powder and heat set it with my heat tool.  This was just a crazy extra to give a tone-on-tone look to the black card base – you can certainly skip this step.
