Petite Petals with Flair

Petite Petals with Flair

Hi Creative Friends,

I am back with a new card design that was a real pleasure to make, and I love the results (I hope you will too!). I used the sweet Mock Orange, and Bamboo Trellis dies, both from Spellbinders. This combination of dies creates a very special presentation that is sure to delight your recipient!

I love dimensional cards, especially ones with flowers. They are so unique and add an extra flair to any project. These flowers were super easy to create and the card details came together so quickly!

But before I jump in making the flowers, let’s first make the card base and front panel.

Spellbinders have a new collection of 100lb. color card stock and we just received a full complement of colors. In the grouping is Raven, a solid black color that I used for the A2 card base and the front panel.

Before applying the front panel to the base, I embossed it using the Penny Black Dots and Dashes embossing folder. I love adding a subtle element to my card designs with a background like this.

Now on to the flowers. I cut out the flower petals using white card stock, then blended on Wild Honey and Crackling Campfire using Spellbinders mini brushes. The stamens were cut from black cardstock. The tips of them were painted with gold ink. I took the easy way out and used a gold leafing pen (see supply list below). Two petals were then glued together and the black stamens rolled up and glued in the middle.

Next was the trellis. I cut a few of these so that I could stack and glue them together, then color them with Rusty Hinge and dashes of Ground Espresso distress ink. There are two separate dies included in this set. They are the ties and X ties. I colored them with Espresso ink, then glued them to the trellis.

On to the leaves, I used Iced Spruce, Peeled Paint, and a dash of Rustic Wilderness to color them. To add more interest, I splattered droplets of water and Ground Espresso ink to the trellis and water and Peeled Paint to the leaves.

The trellis was added to the card front and the leaves were arranged/glued. The flowers were next.

Finally, it was time for the sentiment. I am in love with the new Concord & 9th – Kristina Werner Written Words stamp and die set. I stamped one of the sentiments from the set using Versamark ink, then gold embossed it.

The sentiment was cut out and pressed into place with black foam strips.

Note: since this is a dimensional card, it is best to present it in clear plastic box or make one of your own, then mail it in an outside box. Or, even better, give it to your loved one in person… what could be better than that?

I created an envelope with 1/2″ depth sides from stout, but beautiful, metallic paper (see supply list), then drew flowers on the front. I am not an artist so I simply traced a petal cut-out and arranged them in a flower fashion, then traced them with a white Posca pen. An 08 Pigma Micron pen was used for the stamens. I did the same for the leaves, then traced over them with a green alcohol marker.

And Viola! ..all done!

Thank you so much for joining me on another card journey… I hope to see you next time.
