Sending Handmade Hugs

Hi Cardmaking Friends,

I am sharing another floral card design, this time using Penny Black’s Sending Blooms stamp and die set. I love flowers, so when I need a creative jump start, I grab a floral stamp, especially from Penny Black stamps. It always gives me a little boost of energy and enthusiasm.

I began with a piece of hot-pressed watercolor paper, a stamp positioner, and the stamp set. After stamping the flower twice on my paper, I started painting. This flower could be any color, but for today, I chose purple. I used Shaded Lilac, Villainous Potion, and a pinch of Picked Raspberry. The leaves were painted with Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive. I love the intensity of the distress reinkers, so I used them wherever I could. After I finished the painting to my liking, I colored in the stamens using a Pigma Micron pen.

I cut out the flowers using the coordinating die set and also cut a sprig of eucalyptus. Penny Black’s Ascending die worked great for that.

On to creating the base for my flowers… I started with a slightly larger card base to accommodate the flower. A 4.5″x6″ white cardstock card base worked well, and I also cut a same-size white cardstock panel, and another panel where I cut out a window using Waves, a new die set by Penny Black.

Before adhering the matching white panel to the card front, I blended on a little Bundled Sage at the bottom, graduating up with Shaded Lilac and Speckled Egg. On top of the ink-blended panel, I mounted the Waves panel.

To create a border, I cut out two Waves frames, stacked and glued them together, then nested them into the Waves panel.

All that was left was to arrange the eucalyptus and the flowers and attach them with a few foam squares and glue. I debated whether to add a sentiment but in the end decided on a simple one from the Handmade Hug sentiment stamp set, another new one from Penny Black.
