Autumn Greetings

Hi Cardmaking Friends,

We are inching our way to Autumn, and what better way to celebrate than to make a Fall card! I was smitten by the new Spellbinders Autumn Greetings die set. It is filled with the iconic pumpkins, gourds, and other goodies.

To get the juices flowing, I started with the fun part first… making all the pieces for the wreath and the other Autumn-y things. I began with a piece of cold-press watercolor paper, a few distress inks, and a brush. Using Mustard Seed, Crackling Campfire, Barn Door, Rustic Wilderness, and Peeled Paint distress inks. I spread a thin layer of water over the paper, then started to dab random bits of each of the colors of ink. The paper didn’t look very pretty after painting, but it was redeemed when I cut out all the leaves. Those bits of color gave the leaves a super mottled look.

I cut out two of each of the pieces of the wreath from watercolor paper and painted them with distress inks, too. I used Ground Espresso, Rusty Hinge, and a hint of Black Soot. When dry, I stacked and glued them together to give them more strength. The pumpkins and gourds were cut from watercolor paper and colored with he orange, red, and green distress inks.

Next, I cut out the “Autumn Greetings” sentiment from Terra Cotta cardstock and the shadow from Oceanside. They were then stacked and glued together.

For my background, I embossed an Oceanside cardstock panel using the Knock on Wood embossing folder by Spellbinders (all the goodies used are in the list below).

It was time to put everything together. The embossed panel was mounted onto a slightly larger Oceanside card base, and then the wreath was added on top. The wreath and other elements were added with glue and foam squares here and there.

The sentiment fits neatly in the center of the wreath.
