Vintage Joy

Vintage Joy

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing a new holiday card with a touch of vintage charm. To make it happen, I used a few of my favorites from Penny Black, including the new Winter Blessings stamp and die set, Winter Sprig, and a perennial favorite, Immense Joy.

To get the creative juices flowing, I started with the bird from Winter Blessings. Using cold-press watercolor paper and Vintage Photo distress ink, I stamped the sweet bird and painted him with a few distress inks, like Vintage Photo, Black Soot, Crackling Campfire, and a touch of Lumberjack Plaid. You can use the stamp pads, but I like the reinkers for their intensity!

Once done, he was cut out using the matching die.

Next, I cut out the Winter Sprig, again using cold-pressed watercolor paper. I used Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, and a splash of Rustic Wilderness for the painting.

Both the bird and sprig were set aside to dry while I cut our 3 Immense Joy’s from Eucalyptus cardstock, then stacked and glued them together.

From there, I cut a Poppy red cardstock panel and hot-foiled a beautiful design using Papertrey Ink’s Fresh Greens hot foil plate and red glimmer foil. To add depth and a vintage-y feel to the panel, I ink-blended Lumberjack Plaid and Aged Mahogany around the edges.

With all the pieces done and completely dry, I started to put it all together.

First, using an Eucalyptus cardstock card base, then adding the red cardstock panel I had just hot foiled, I completed the foundation for the card. I added the ‘Joy’ next, then arranged the winter sprig and the bird to finish.

I love the boldness of the Immense Joy. I reach for it every holiday season. It is always a winner and so versatile too. Adding the bird was a natural, and the birds in the Winter Blessings set are lovely!

I hope you like my project today. It was a joy to make… consider giving it a whirl yourself. You will love it!
