Simply Ravishing
Hi Creative Friends,
I am hitting the pause button on the holiday projects just for a moment so I can make a special birthday card for my sister. She loves the vintage-style botanical paintings. Penny Black is the best with this kind of stamp, and the Ravisihing cling stamp is no exception. It creates a gorgeous single blossom!

This single blossom is so beautiful, and since it is a rubber cling stamp so it has lots of detail. With these kinds of stamps, I like to let the stamp do most of the work….meaning not to overwork it.
I started with a 5×7″ hot-pressed watercolor panel in my stamp positioner. A stamp positioner is a must, along with a mister/spritzer of some kind. To achieve depth and interest, I used a variety of ink colors.
So, with the watercolor paper and the stamp mounted in my stamp positioner, I began by inking the flower with Saltwater Taffy and the leaves with Iced Spruce, then LIGHTLY spritzed the stamp before stamping so that the ink would move and mingle with the paper. From there, I start adding a color at a time and LIGHTLY spritzing before stamping if necessary. To make sure I don’t have any hard lines, I often spread the ink with my finger before stamping or spritzing.

The trick with this kind of stamp is not to overwork the color, so I add bits one color at a time. With this flower, I added a dash of Wild Honey in a few places and incorporated Worn Lipstick and Barn Door into the edges. The center was inked with Abandoned Coral and Seedless Preserves.
After initially stamping the leaves with Iced Spruce, I added Crushed Olive near the tips and Peeled Paint near the base of the leaves.
To create a border, I used one of the masks from the Penny Black Background Basics stencil pack, then ink-blended a little Antique Linen distress ink along the inside edges of the stencil.

The sentiment was added last. I used a sentiment from the Double Our Joy sentiment stamp set by Penny Black and stamped it with Versafine Clair Shady Lane.
The panel was mounted onto an off-white Alabaster card base to finish.
I hope you enjoyed our brief departure from the holidays to share a floral adventure today. ♥
