We have a real beauty for you today. It was created by the very talented, Lisa Tilson of My Card Trip blog. She used the beautiful Thinking of You stamp and die set by Concord & 9th, combined it with a few coloring techniques, and VIOLA… a masterpiece!
Hello everyone, it’s Lisa here today to share a card with you using some beautiful recently released products from Concord & 9th. As soon as I saw this die and stamp set, I knew I would love to make a card using them. And today I thought I would make a shaker card. I won’t pretend this was a quick card, it was a little bit of a labour of love but hopefully worth it in the end.
I started by creating the shaker element. As the sides of the frame are pretty thin, I thought foam tape would be too fiddly and would most likely be visible behind. So, I took five A2 panels of Neenah 80lb cardstock, and added Stick It Adhesive to one side of each. I then die cut the frame five times and adhered them together in a stack. My acetate piece was secured between the top layer and the second layer. This allowed me plenty of room behind the acetate for the sequins to shake about. I also feel that this is a much tidier way of doing a shaker, you do use a lot of panels, but it feels robust and any leftovers can easily be used for other projects.
I then took a piece of white cardstock small enough to use as a backing behind the frames and I blended Papertrey Ink Hawaiian Shores and Tropical Teal inks from bottom to top, making sure to leave white space at the top. I placed this inked panel down onto my work surface and added my sequin mix towards the middle. This was mostly a silver/white mix, but I added a few other sequins from a teal/silver mix in with it for extra colour. It’s a great way to use up those sequins that we hoard! I then adhered the frame panel over the top to secure the sequins inside.
All was going pretty well up until this point! As I stamped out the floral corner from the Thinking Of You Stamp set twice onto a separate piece of white card, ready for colouring, I realised that I could have actually stamped directly onto the top frame piece, which would have saved me the fiddly exercise of fussy cutting both of them out. But at this point, I didn’t want to risk stamping the image onto the shaker as it was all aligned perfectly and I didn’t want to find myself starting again! Hindsight is a wonderful thing in cardmaking.
So, after I stamped the floral corners, I coloured them both with Copics and fussy cut them out and then adhered them over the top of the shaker frame using Multi Medium Matte. I added double-sided tape to the back of the shaker section and adhered it down onto a top folding aqua base card. To finish the card, I die cut the Thinking Of You sentiment from 110lb white cardstock, added wet adhesive to the back and carefully placed it down over the acetate. And that finished the card. These pairings of product from Concord & 9th are just so pretty, I will have them out again, maybe even for another shaker as it would be quicker to do next time.
