I fell in love with the simple and “piecey” style of this floral design. And lucky for me, it was super easy to create this modern print by using the new Concord & 9th Spring Print stamp and die set. The die plate cuts out all the pieces for you to create your own by either using colored paper or in this case, blending inks onto each piece.
The first step was to cut out all the pieces from the Spring Print die plate using bristol paper (for easy blending). Then, of course, ink-blend them. I started with the flowers as those pieces were easily identifiable.
As mentioned, you can choose a variety of colored cardstock and create your floral array that way, without doing any ink blending. It creates a wonderful floral display! But, since I like the watercolor-y look, I thought I would try blending a few ink colors together. I used a few Concord & 9th ink colors, plus ink daubers to apply the ink. You can see the colors used in the supply list below.
I like to start with the lighter colors first, and then build on the colors. So, in this case, I started with yellows, then added light, melon-peachy colors to warm it up, and finished with the brighter pinks.
The colors for the leaves were divided into three colors, namely Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, and Avocado. I used my larger blending brushes for this.
Since the completed flowers, leaves, and background create the whole card front, there are a few things to assemble. You could treat it like a puzzle and fit all the pieces together, but I was fearful that to hold all the pieces together, I would get it slightly “off” and therefore look a little wonky. So, I took the easier way out and first embossed the pattern onto a white cardstock panel.
I did this by removing the bottom cutting plate from my die-cutting machine and replacing it with my rubber mat. Next, I placed the floral die plate and the white cardstock panel together and placed them on top of the rubber mat. Using a few pieces of cardstock as a shim, I ran it through my die-cutting machine. This gave it just enough pressure to imprint the design without cutting it.
Everything was downhill from here! I simply followed the embossed lines and glued the pieces in place. But, before I did that, I stamped a few sprays of dots using Dove ink and the dot stamp in Concord & 9th’s Tulip Festival stamp.
I stamped one of the included sentiments onto a little plaque made using one of the dies in the set.
To complete, the card front and sentiment were mounted onto a gray ‘Fog’ cardstock card base. ♥
