St. Nick

St. Nick

Hi Creative Friends,

I am adding another holiday card to my stash with this super cute Santa from the St.Nick die set by Spellbinders. He has a Father Christmas vibe which I love!

You can make this Santa the easy way by cutting all the pieces out from a variety of holiday colored card stock or you can take a longer way around like I did and cut the pieces from bristol paper and ink blend each piece.

I love the ink blending way! I think it adds a little extra character and dimensions. Ink daubers are marvelous for this since they can get into little spaces more easily. Additionally, sticking the smaller pieces to a full-adhesive post-it note is an easy way to hold on to the pieces while you color. I used all distress inks and a separate post-it note for each color (ie: one for the arms, hat, and later the face, then a separate one for boots, mittens, and belt).  Here is a list of the colors used (I have also listed them in the supply list below):

  • St Nick’s body and hat: Candied Apple, Lumberjack Plaid, and Aged Mahogany
  • St. Nick’s mittens, boots, and belt: Black Soot
  • St. Nick’s face: Worn Lipstick, Black Soot
  • Tree: Crushed Olive (first layer), Rustic Wilderness, and Pine Needles

I assembled St. Nick once all the pieces were colored. It comes together pretty easily. I used the pic on the packaging as a guide and the Marvy Jewel Picker made it easy to pick up the pieces and move them into place.

Next, I embossed a piece of white card stock using the 3D embossing folder Argyle Plaid by SpellBinders, trimmed it to a tall, slender size. It was then mounted onto a slightly larger gold foil panel, then adding the whole assembly to a slightly larger white card stock card base.

St. Nick was placed using foam squares to pop him up. Then, the gold foil star and the sentiment were applied to complete my holiday card.

Before I sign off for now, a quick note about the sentiment. I used the Betterpress Mistletoe Greetings set to make the sentiment. As you undoubtedly know, Betterpress press plates can be used with your hot foil machines, and that is just what I did. I used gold foil and the Glimmer system.

This Betterpress set also includes a die to cut out the sentiments. It is designed so you can letterpress or foil all the sentiments, then cut out the sentiments at once. What a time saver! I love it!

I hope you enjoyed today’s crafty adventure! I will see you again soon!
