Scaredy Cat

Scaredy Cat

Hello, my ghoulish friends,

I am dedicating this fun and spooky card design to my mischievous black cat Felix. He is the perfect solid black Halloween cat with glowing yellow eyes, just like the one in the Lovely Layers Scaredy Cat dies set by Honey Bee Stamps.

If you have checked out any of my projects before, you would know that I love a Halloween scene and this awesome Scaredy Cat die set was perfect!

I cut out all the pieces from the Scaredy Cat set using Bristol paper and colored them using ink daubers and a few distress inks, Here is the list of inks used:

  • Cat – Black Soot, Wild Honey (eyes), Villainous Potion, Crushed Olive and Wild Honey (hat band)
  • Pumpkin – Wild Honey, Ripe Persimmon, Crackling Campfire, Crushed Olive
  • Spider – Black Soot, Villainous Potion
  •  Bats – Black Soot, Villainous Potion, Worn Lipstick

When all were colored, they were assembled and glued together. Just a note about the coloring: I love to hand-color the pieces. That way, I have complete control of the colors. Of course, another way to create these Halloween elements is to use colored cardstock. That’s a brilliant option too!

With the completed elements set aside for now, I started on the background, The background was colored with distress inks too. I first cut out a big, round circle from masking paper and mounted it on a bristol paper panel. The sky was colored using Wild Honey and a dash of Ripe Persimmon around the moon. Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, Villainous Potion, and Black Soot were all used to finish out the sky. The grassy ground was created using a grassy stencil and Forest Moss and Black Soot were used as color, Spider webs were added in the corners using another stencil, Papertrey Ink’s Spider Web.

Once the background was complete, the circle mask was removed and the Tim Holtz moon stencils were used to color the moon. This added more life and dimension.

All the Halloween elements were arranged and attached with foam squares, including a wickedly spooky tree from Honey Bee Stamps Owlloween stamp and die set.

For the sentiment, I reached into my stash and chose one I had made from the Spellbinders Halloween Icons press plate set last season.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project… I will see you again very soon!
