Hi Creative Friends,
It was so nice to share a sweet and delicate heart card design with you today. It was created using a wonderful die from Alexandra Renke called Vine Heart and it is perfect for a wedding, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, or whenever you want to send sentiments of the heart.
I chose the wonderful texture and weight of cold-pressed watercolor paper for this card design. I used it throughout.
So, starting with a 5″x 7″ watercolor paper panel. I centered the Alexandra Renke Vine Heart die on the panel and carefully cut it out. I removed it only to color/paint it. The colors I used to paint it were a mix of Worn Lipstick and Picked Raspberry for the heart buds and a mixture of Crushed Olive and Mowed Lawn distress inks for the vine part. After it was dry, I gently pressed it back into the 5×7″ panel it came from and trimmed the edges slightly.
Next, I made a 5″x7″ cold-pressed watercolor paper card base and centered the vine heart panel over the top temporarily so that I could mark where the sentiment should go.
At this point, you can add any lovely sentiment you desire. This card is for my nephew to celebrate his marriage so I wanted it extra personal. I chose to hand-letter their names. To do that, I first had to add a few guidelines, and then prepare my ‘ink’.
To get a matching color, I mixed red and white gouache in a dappen dish, then added droplets of water until I had the right consistency when stirred.
Next, using an oblique pen holder, Hunt 101, and my newly made ink, I carefully lettered their names. It is always nerve-racking when lettering, but it is only paper and can be replaced, right? I have to remind myself of that every time I letter!
After the ink was good and dry, I carefully removed the guideline with an Art Kneadable Eraser (this eraser is gentle and works well on pencil marks), then mounted the Vine Heart panel on top.
Viola! the card was done!
I hope you enjoyed it! ♥
