A Joyful Christmas

A Joyful Christmas

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today we are sharing a card design made from the Sweet Orange Holidays stamp and die set. I don’t know about you but it is our long-time family tradition to find an orange in the toe of our Christmas stocking. It may seem like a silly tradition but it goes way back and is filled with lovely, warm holiday feelings.

This card design uses some of my favorites like the Joy frame die for the background. So, let’s start there. To get a deep impression of the details of the Joy frame without cutting through the paper, I sandwiched two pieces of Vintage Cream card stock together with glue, let it dry.  Then, using the frame die, I ran it through my die-cutting machine with the foam embossing pad and extra layers of paper. These extra layers of paper help apply more pressure to the die plate, thus creating a deep impression. Once that was done, I trimmed the sides and set it aside while I created the other pieces.

(By the way, you probably know that dies are slow to come in now but this Joy frame is expected to arrive very soon- so reserve your copy.)

I stamped out the oranges onto bristol paper for better ink blending. There are a few layering stamps to the oranges so I first used Summer Sunrise and then for the shading stamps, I used Orange Zest and finally, Pure Poppy. I also stamped and cut out a second sectioned orange layer to the cut orange using the matching dies.

For the foliage, I used the Tree Essentials stamp and die set and stamped and cut out pine boughs using Pinefeather ink and the matching dies. The little sprigs were stamped with Ripe Avocado and cut out.

I needed just a few more things before I could start assembling. First, I cut out a black cardstock circle using the Papertrey Ink-Ink to Paper Scalloped Circle die set and smudged it with Fresh Snow ink. Then, I cut out two ‘Joyful’s’ from the Christmas die set from Pure Poppy cardstock and glued them together.

I was ready to assemble. Using a white card base, I mounted the Vintage Cream embossed panel on top, then with a bit of foam tape, added the black circle. With more foam tape, I mounted the pine boughs and sprigs and then the oranges.

The final step was to mount the ‘Joyful’ on top and a sentiment strip I created with white card stock, True Black ink, and a sentiment from the Sweet Orange stamp set… and there you have it. One more card ready to send for the holidays! YAY!
