Beautiful Poinsettias

Beautiful Poinsettias

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing a clean and simple holiday card using a glorious poinsettia-filled stamp set by Penny Black called Carmine. This stamp has all the things I love… beautiful poinsettias, berries, and leaves.

This is an easy way to watercolor. There is no precise coloring and you can draw the color from the stamped outline to color most of it.

To start, I placed a watercolor panel in my stamp positioner, along with the stamp. I inked up the stamp with Saltwater Taffy and Candied Apple distress ink on the petals and Wild Honey distress ink in the center. Then, I lightly spritzed it with water a couple of times and stamped it. I then inked up the leaves and berries with Peeled Paint and Candied Apple for the berries, then stamped again. I didn’t worry too much if the colors overlapped a little… like where the berries and leaves meet.

Next, without moving the watercolor panel or the stamp, I used a damp brush to coax the ink from the stamped edges toward the center of the flower. If I needed more color, I smooched a patch of ink on my work surface and used that as my palette. A little Candied Apple was used for shading the flowers and the berries. To give the berries different colors, I used a little Aged Mahogany and Wild Honey too.

Before I was ready to move the stamp, I lightly inked the image again with the same colors as before and stamped it. This gave me back the crisp outline.

Once I was satisfied with the coloring and stamping, I repositioned the stamp in another area of the panel. I inked, stamped, and colored just like before.

The panel was nearly finished. I only needed to stamp a sentiment. I found a lovely one in the Happy & Bright stamp set. I used Candied Apple distress ink to stamp.

When the panel was dry, I mounted it onto a slightly larger Wax Lips cardstock panel and then mounted everything onto a white card base to complete the card.

Sometimes a clean and simple one is just the right choice. It is classic and beautiful!

I hope you enjoyed it and will give it a whirl!
