Best of Luck Birthday

Best of Luck Birthday

Hi Creative Friends,

Ready to have some fun for a special birthday or event? Well, Penny Black has the cutest wood block stamp called Best of Luck. It is filled with animated chicken’s doing just that… having fun!

I started with these adorable chickens! Using a piece of Spectrum Noir Ultra Smooth Premium paper (awesome for alcohol marker coloring!) and an alcohol-friendly ink like Memento Tuxedo Black (my favorite!), I stamped the chickens, then set about coloring them.

In case you are interested, the colors I used were:

Chickens: C2, BG10, Y08, YR24, R32, R46
Fire Extinguisher: R32, R17, R46, YR24
Cake: E51, YR24, E09, R30, RV21, BG15, Y06, Y08, YR18
Tablecloth: G21, YG03, BG1
Grass: YG03, G07, YG03

Once done with all the coloring, I added the sentiment. I was feeling a bit naughty and didn’t have a sentiment stamp I wanted so I wrote my own. Using a 01 Pigma Micro pen, I wrote “what the flock?” and will write “another birthday!?!” inside the card when done.

Next, I cut a corrugated piece of cardboard using the Hero Arts Infinity Postage Stamp die set. I happened to have a piece of corrugated card stock in my stash but if you don’t, just peel off the top layer from a cardboard box. If it doesn’t come off cleanly, no worries… it adds to the charm! Once my panel was cut, I used white acrylic paint and added swipes of the white paint onto the panel, making sure not to cover all of it!

While the corrugated panel was drying, I cut a Peppermint red cardstock panel the same size as the corrugated postage one, then another panel from the My Favorite Things Rainbow Grid paper. This one was a little bigger than the postage panel assembly. This makes sure the nice grid pattern shows on the edges!

To assemble, I trimmed the birthday chicken panel to fit inside the postage panel, then backed it with foam and adhered it to the postage panel. Next, I adhered the red panel to the back of the postage panel. Twine was wrapped around this whole grouping and a bow was tied.

I made a white cardstock card base the same size as my grid paper when folded, then attached the grid paper to the front. Then the whole corrugated/chicken grouping was added on top to finish the front of the card.

I wanted to make this card extra special so I wrote my ‘another birthday!?!’ sentiment inside and stamped one of the chickens and baby chick, then lightly colored them.

Finally, I made an envelope to match using a piece of Desert Storm and a scoring board, then stamped and colored more chickens so I had a complete ensemble.

I had a blast with this card. Sometimes you just got to do something out of the ordinary, don’t you?
