Big, Beautiful Flowers

Big, Beautiful Flowers

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing a new project today using a brand new stamp by Alexandra Renke called Big Flowers. It is always a pleasure to share one of their stamps or dies. Their artwork is always beautiful and this one is not except! The flowers in this stamp are gorgeous and can be used in so many ways.

I decided to make a slimline card using this stamp. So, using a slimline hot-pressed watercolor paper panel, I stamped the flowers a couple of times using a waterproof ink like Versafine Black Onyx. I then filled in the panel with a couple of partial stampings.

It was time to watercolor. I chose to use the awesome Karin watercolor markers (see supply list). I LOVE these markers. They are a real pleasure to use. They blend beautifully so that means you only need a few markers to make different shades of color. I keep a selection of them on my work surface all the time so I always have them at the ready!

I used a few pinkish-reds, melon, and yellow markers. For the little berries, I used blue and purple. I worked with one flower at a time, first moistening it with water, then adding color. I added color in the areas I wanted the darkest first, then blended it out with my damp brush.

Once all the flowers were done, I mixed a bit of Chipped Sapphire distress ink with a tiny bit of Peeled Paint distress ink with water to get a very watery gray-blue color for the background. I painted around the flowers.  I was careful to not disturb the berries too much.

While the panel was drying, I created the sentiment. I used The Stamp Market’s lovely labels stamp and die set. I first stamped with Versamark ink, then heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.

When the panel was very dry, I trimmed a tiny bit off each edge, then wrapped a gold thread around the middle and tied a bow.

To finish, I mounted a Berry Sorbet cardstock panel to the front of a white card base, then added the watercolor panel on top. I pressed the sentiment ‘label’ into place and added a few soft pink jewels for a touch of sparkle!

Now the card was finished and ready to mail – YAY!
