Botanicals and Butterflies

Botanicals and Butterflies

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing a card design using the beautiful Botanicals and Butterflies stamp and die set by Pinkfresh Studios. I loved using this set. It is brilliant how you can remove the butterflies if you like or leave them in, It also is a cling/rubber stamp so it gives you great detail. Then, to make it more wonderful, it has a matching die set that makes a perfect cut around each element and coloring stencils, if you would like to use them. All these superb features make it a dream to work with!

Though it has stencils to make coloring very easy, I chose to use an equally easy way by using Karin watercolor markers. You only have to use a few since they blend so beautifully with water and the brush tip allows you to get into the small areas! But, whether you use Karin markers, inks, or your favorite watercolors, it is an awesome set to use.

So, now that you know how much I enjoyed this set, let’s get into it!

I started with a watercolor panel mounted in my stamp positioner and stamped the whole image using waterproof ink like Versafine Black Onyx (my fave!). After stamping, I begin by moistening a few leaves at a time, then added color with my markers. For the leaves, I used a few green markers and a tiny bit of yellow at the tips, then blended the color with my brush.

When all the leaves were colored, I moved on to the tiny flowers where I used only two markers, a pinkish-red and more of a coral color. I finished by coloring the butterflies with a touch of blue, coral, and yellow.

With all the coloring done, I cut it out with the matching die and set it aside while I created the base.

Using an A2-sized bristol paper panel, I ink blended the new and yummy Saltwater Taffy distress ink onto the panel, fading out the color as I reached the bottom so that the last bit was left white. Then, for a little more intense color at the top, I added a little Worn Lipstick distress ink, which turned out to be the perfect compliment.

Once done, I mounted it onto a white cardstock card base, then stamped the simple sentiment “Bloom” with Pinkfresh Coral Reef ink. The branch of flowers and butterflies were mounted onto the front using a bit of foam tape to pop it up!

That completes the project and I am in love with it… I hope you like it too!
