Christmas Holly Berries

Christmas Holly Berries

Hi Creative Friends,

I am popping in to share a dramatic but easy holiday card. It features a wonderful stamp and die set by Hero Arts called Holly Berries. One of the things I love about the holidays is the beautiful holly and berries everywhere. so when I saw this gorgeous stamp and die set I had to have it!

I have seen so many beautiful card designs by Yana Smakula where she uses a black background. If you ever saw my wardrobe you would know I had to give it a try… haha! Another great thing about this stamp and die set is that it has everything you need! So, without further adieu, let’s jump in…

As many of you know, I like to cut out the image using the matching dies first, then stamp it using a stamp positioner. I have so much better luck that way. I used black, Copic-friendly ink for the stamping.

Once the holly berry branch was stamped, I colored all the leaves and berries using my Copic markers. For the berries I used R05, R27, and R39 for the shading. For the holly leaves, I first colored the whole leaf with YG01, then used YG03, G28 for the shading. The pine sprigs were colored with YG17 and G48. The other berries were colored using BG10, BG49, and C4 for shading, along with E99 and E79 for the branch.

When all the coloring was done, I took the leap and colored all the white borders of the holly berry branch with a number 100 black Copic marker – Yikes!

With the coloring done, I added foam tape to the back, then set it aside while I created an A2 sized white card base, covered the front with a candy stripe piece of patterned paper from the new Cool Collab paper pack by My Favorite Things (see supply list below).

Next, I added a slightly smaller black cardstock panel on top, then prepped it with anti-static powder, stamped the sentiment with Versamark embossing ink, and white heat embossed it.

The holly branch was added with foam tape and a few dots of white ink (my favorite, Dr. Ph Martin’s Bleedproof ink) were dotted around. Finally, I tied a Peppermint twine cord around the top to finish the card!
