Crimson Blush Beauty

Crimson Blush Beauty

Hi Creative Friends,

For today’s project, I am taking a page out of Yana Smakula‘s playbook and using a dark background to accent this beautiful rose image called Crimson Blush by Penny Black. Yana does amazing work and I just love her use of dark backgrounds to create drama to her card designs.

To start, I mounted the Crimson Blush stamp into my stamp positioner. I chose to use my Karin watercolor markers to stamp the image onto watercolor paper. If you haven’t tried the Karin markers before, they are a dream to use. They are full of rich, vibrant pigment and they blend beautifully with water. I encourage you to give them a try. They are awesome. But, if you like you can use inks or Tombow markers to get a similar look.

Whether you use ink or markers, the method I used would be the same. To make painting super easy, I rubbed the different colors I was using over the stamp, spritzed it very well with water (without drowning it!), then stamped the image. I used a small paintbrush to blend the color but was careful to not blend too much so I didn’t blur the detail. Once the paint was blended throughout the stamped image, I colored the stamp one more time with he markers and stamped it again to crisp up the detail. When I was satisfied with result and the image was very dry, I fussy-cut it out with a pair of detail scissors.

Next, I embossed an A2 panel of Aubergin cardstock and mounted it to a white A2 cardstock card base.

For the sentiment, I hot foiled in gold the “Happy Birthday” sentiment using a great set by Yana and Spellbinders called Yana’s Sentiments (see supply list below).

The roses and the sentiment were mounted to the card front using foam squares, then added a sweet little white butterfly splattered with gold paint that I had cut out using the Soaring die set by Penny Black.

To add a little sparkle, I glued a few Ballet Slipper jewels in strategic places to complete my card design.
