Deck The Halls (twice) with Heather Telford

Hi there,

Heather Telford is visiting today and sharing not one, but two card designs and color schemes. She has an eye for the beautiful and knows just how to make it happen!

In today’s card designs, she is using the Concord & 9th Deck The Halls turnabout stamp set. This turnabout stamp gives you the opportunity to use four coordinating colors to create a stunning background. Take a look at how she uses the inks to change the look of each card, then accenting each one with a different sentiment.

After feasting your eyes on these beauties, pop over to her blog for tons more inspiration! You will be wowed by her creativity and ingenuity!

Hi there, my crafty friends. I have a couple of fun cards to share today featuring the Concord & 9th ‘Deck the Halls’ turnabout stamp. I created one in a very traditional color scheme and the other (accidentally) in a non-traditional color scheme.

I worked on hot pressed watercolor paper as I was undecided about adding some blended color. I didn’t end up doing that so I would actually recommend using Neenah cream cardstock for these cards. For the traditionally colored card, I started by stamping the turnabout stamp in Versamark then embossed in gold powder. I did the embossed color first so I would not have to worry about embossing powder sticking to other colors of ink. I turned my panel 90 degrees and stamped in shady lane Versafine Clair, turned again then stamped rainforest Versafine Clair and turned once more, then stamped in glamorous Versafine Clair ink. Once you’ve stamped four times with this turnabout stamp the panel is full of Christmas motifs.

I decided to highlight gold and red on my die cut sentiment and used the Penny Black ‘wreath noel’ die to cut red foam and gold cardstock letters. My gold cardstock wasn’t a match for my gold embossing so I pressed a Versamark pad onto the letters and embossed them in the same gold powder I’d used on the panel, the result was all matchy-matchy! If you don’t have red foam you can just cut the letters a couple of times from red cardstock then stack the die-cuts together. I framed the panel by swiping the ‘glamorous’ ink pad around the edges then attached the panel to a square Neenah cream card base.
My non-traditional color scheme is gold, platinum, white and black. Yes, black on a Christmas card! I stamped in clear, then embossed in white powder, turned the panel then embossed in gold powder, turned again and embossed in platinum powder and finally turned the last time and intended to stamp in Versamark followed by some new red embossing powder. However, when I thought I’d picked up my Versamark ink pad I had actually picked up my Versafine Clair nocturne ink pad so I ended up stamping in black! I was surprised by how modern and classy the black looked with the gold, platinum, and white so I embossed the black in clear powder and kept going.
I chose another sentiment die from Penny Black, ‘jingle bells’ and cut if from black foam and gold shimmer cardstock. Although the gold cardstock was not a perfect match with the embossing I liked the look of the darker gold colour so used if for the sentiment and a mat. Again I attached the panel to a Neenah cream square card base. The possibilities are indeed endless with this stamp, emboss or not, dye ink or pigment, traditional or non-traditional colors!
Thanks for joining me today and thank you to the Foiled Fox for letting me hang out here on their blog again. It is always a wonderful place to be.
