Elegant Christmas Berries

Elegant Christmas Berries

Hi Creative Friends,

We have brand new goodies from Penny Black and you know what that means! It is a must for me to grab a bunch and give them a whirl!

I am starting out this Penny Black holiday extravaganza with the beautiful Berries Abound set. The set includes an embossing folder, stencils, and a die. All of these combined help you make something wonderful!

I began with the embossing folder and a piece of watercolor paper. After spritzing the back with a mist of water, I mounted it in the embossing folder and ran it through my die-cutting machine. This is a 3D folder so the impress folder makes is deep.

Next, using the stencils one by one, I blended on color using an ink dauber. The distress ink colors I used are:

  • Leaves: Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, Forest Moss, and a dash of Saltwater Taffy at the tips
  • Berries: Saltwater Taffy, Lumberjack Plaid, Aged Mahogany for shading and a little glint of Wild Honey
  • Twigs: Rusty Hinges and Vintage Photo

The stencils made quick work of the coloring.

With the berries cut out using the matching die, I added a little gold sparkles by lightly brushing the edges of the leaves and berries with Versamark ink, sprinkled with gold embossing powder, and heat-set it.

I created a background for the berries with a Luxe White panel (which isn’t white at all… it is a textured cream) and blended on Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, and a touch of Saltwater Taffy.

Penny Black has a brand new border that I love called ‘Whirl”. I cut one border with this die set using white card stock and another A2-sized panel of gold metallic card stock (see supply list below).

I put it all together, starting with a white card stock card base, then the metallic gold panel on top. Next, I mounted the sprigs of berries on top the ink-blended Luxe white panel using foam squares, and the Whirl white border was added. This whole assembly was then backed with a foam sheet and mounted on top of the prepared card base.

The only thing left was the sentiment. I chose one from the Honey Bee Stamps Home for the Holidays stamp and die set. It was stamped with Versarmark ink, gold embossed, then cut out with the matching dies… I love it when these stamps and dies are so nicely grouped together! It makes my life very easy!

The sentiment was mounted with foam squares and VIOLA! the card was done!
