Hi Creative Friends,
I am back, sharing a scary Halloween card design featuring a frightful witch and her trusty black cat. The Flight by Night woodblack stamp by Penny Black stole my heart with her flowing hair, wicked look, and black cat!
I started with a 4.5″x7.5″ hot pressed watercolor paper mounted in my stamp positioner. The witch is a woodblock stamp and it makes a solid impression on it’s own but I didn’t trust myself to get a dark enough impression so I gently peeled the stamp off the block and mounted it in my stamp positioner. The stamp was placed so that the witch would be high in the sky.
The witch was inked and stamped using Versafine Black Onyx ink, then left to dry overnight. One thing you always want to do is let anything stamped with Versafine Black Onyx ink is let it dry thoroughly, either by heat gun or air dry. It has a long open time so it takes a bit to get it really, really dry. For once, I made sure the panel was very dry and let it air dry overnight!
Next, I stamped the witch onto a piece of masking paper, then carefully fussy cut it out. The mask was then applied on top of the stamped witch. I also cut out a circle mask the same size as my moon stencil and placed it on the panel.
With the masks in place, I ink blended the background. First with Faded Jeans, then Chipped Sapphire and a little Black Soot distress inks. The bottom half of the panel was ink blended with Wild Honey, Crackling Campfire, and Walnut Stain distress inks (see supply list below).
When finished, the masks were removed, then using the Tim Holtz Moon Mask set and Chipped Sapphire ink, I added detail to the moon and the witch and her pumpkin were colored with a few distress inks.
Now, using the Restful stamp by Penny Black and my stamp positioner again, I inked and stamped the tree first on the right side of the panel, then again slightly to the left and a little lower.
I stamped the sentiment from the Witching You stamp and a couple of awesome bats from the Halloween Gathering stamp set. Each stamp is a Penny Black stamp set and each were stamped with Versafine Black Onyx ink.
The panel was mounted onto a Licorice black card stock card base, then splattered with dots of Sumi ink to finish!
I love Halloween cards and I hope you have a fondness too! ♥
