Foiled Coffee Cups by Laurel Beard

Hi there!

Laurel Beard here and I am giddy to be back with you all today. I adore the opportunity to work with the folks at The Foiled Fox. Today I have a rainbow foiled coffee card to share with you all! Seriously, rainbow, coffee, watercolor, foil – HELLO!

If you know me, you know I LOOOOOOVE me a good cup a coffee! I have been known to drink many cups during the day! I am also known for my whacky coffee cup collection!  I thought it would be fun to make some rainbow colored coffee! Why not, right? A little rainbow action is never a bad thing!

I started by stamping one of the coffee cup images from the Concord & 9th Let’s Chat stamp set with Toffee Crunch ink and then stamped it again a few times on some Inkadinkadoo masking paper! I cut the masks out and then just started stamping away to create the background, being sure to move the mask around on the cups as needed.

Once all the stamping was done, it was time to add some color! I used the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors.  Anytime I watercolor, I always put a wash of water down first, then I add the watercolor. Why? Because the water does all the work for me!!!! 🙂 I’m kind of lazy!  I did watercolor a coffee cup from a separate piece of watercolored cardstock because I knew I wanted to have one coffee cup popped up off the card but more on that in a bit!

It’s time to talk foiling!  Once everything was completely dry, I added some of the Heidi Swapp Reactive Mist to the card! I just took the stirrer stick and flicked it on! Now I was nervous because I had NO idea how this was going to turn out, but I went with it with my fingers crossed! I took my heat gun to the areas with the Reactive Mist for just a few seconds and then it was time to foil. I used some Gold Deco Foil and placed it on top of the card panel foil side up! I slipped into the transfer folder and ran it thru my Minc Machine on setting 4. Holding my breath and crossing my fingers, I removed it from the transfer folder and BAM! All that beautiful gold foil was starring right at me and I loved it!

I mentioned before I wanted to have one coffee cup popping up off the page – so why not foil the image? I grabbed a paint brush, dipped it into the Reactive Mist bottle and painted the medium directly onto my stamp and then stamped it onto some watercolored cardstock. I zapped it with my heat tool for a few seconds and again, ran it thru the Minc machine the same way I did the card panel. The result? A beautiful foiled coffee cup image! I watercolored the cup, followed the same steps to foil the sentiment and adhered it to the card with some double sided foam tape! And my rainbow coffee cup card was born!!!!

Thanks so much to the folks at The Foiled Fox for having me! I can’t wait to be back here again soon!
