Hi Creative Friends,
I am starting off the week with a birthday card with a twist. I used the new Concord & 9th Geo Mod stencil by Kristina Werner to make a birthday card that had an abstract painting vibe.
Using something abstract was a bit out of the ordinary for me so before I began working on the actual panel for the card I did a trial run with a plain copy paper panel. This extra step allowed me to decide on the panel size and what to stencil first. During this trial run, I discovered that I should stencil on the abstract circles, arrows, and such first if I wanted the flowers to stand out.
Next, I cut a piece of Ballet Slipper pink card stock to begin working with the actual panel I would use for the card design. Then, I chose a grouping of ink colors (see supply list below) and dove in. The great thing about this stencil is that you can use any grouping of colors you like and vary the design to fit the recipient. By just changing the color palette and the choice of shapes, it would make a great masculine card too!
So, just as I learned earlier, I started with the more abstract elements (shapes, arrows, etc.) and blended the different shapes using a few different ink colors. Ink daubers seemed to be the best choice for ink blending in some of the small places. One super important thing is to wipe off the excess ink on the stencil after each use so that you are not transferring unwanted ink onto your panel.
With the abstract stenciling done, I added some flowers, varying the color for each flower, and then added a center for each flower.
Next, I made a 5″x7″ white card stock card base and matching panel. The panel was mounted on top.
I cut and mounted a slightly larger gold foil card stock panel to the back of the abstract one, then mounted it all to the front of the card base.
Using a stamp positioner and the Papertrey Ink Birthday Your Way stamp set, I stamped the simple sentiment “Happy Birthday” using Grapefruit ink.
That completed my card design and I was very pleased with the result. I hope you enjoyed it too! ♥
