Hedgie Is Popping Out To Say “Hi”

Hedgie Is Popping Out To Say “Hi”

Hi Crafty Friends,

We love hedgies (hedgehogs) around here and so does Penny Black. They have a brand new stamp set devoted to these adorable little critters. It is called Plant Joy. This hedgie is one popping out of a flower pot and saying ‘Hi” to the friendly little bee.

Penny Black has some brand new stamps and dies that are awesome. We are showcasing two of them here in this simple but charming card design.

This design starts by cutting a panel from Neenah white 110lb. card stock using the new Dainty Dashes die set. This set is amazing! We love the patterned edge it cuts into a panel.

Next, we stamped the hedgie in a pot onto the panel using alcohol marker friendly ink, like My Favorite Things Extreme Hybrid black ink. At the same time, we stamped the adorable bee onto a scrap of the white cardstock.

Each of these was colored with Copic alcohol markers. For the hedgie, we used: W1, W3, W7 around his face and paws. His bristle-y fur was colored with E31 and E23, with a rosy cheek colored with R1. The pot was colored with R22, R35, and R39 and the colors for the flowers were R22, R32 and Y35. Dots of green were added with YG03 and G07. The bee was colored with Y35 and Bg0000 for the wings.

With the coloring done, we fussy-cut the bee with tiny detail scissors.

There wasn’t much left to do but to mount foam on the back of the hedgie panel, then adhere it to an A2 white card stock card base. The little bee was mounted with a spot of foam tape.

The final bit was to add an itty-bitty speech bubble sentiment! We couldn’t find a speech bubble die small enough so we made our own by cutting a black cardstock circle using the smallest circle die we had and stamped ‘Hi” with Versamark ink and white heat embossed it. It was mounted with foam tape, then a couple of tiny black dots were cut with a paper punch and added to lead to the hedgie.

And there you have it, an adorable hedgie itchin’ to say ‘Hi’!
