Hi Creative Friends,
Today’s project celebrates the summer sunshine (even though it is a bit too hot right now) with this tropical paradise. A few summery gems from Papertrey Ink and Honey Bee Stamps were used to make it happen.
This card design started with an A2 Bristol paper panel, blending brushes, and a few distress inks to make the background. I first masked off the bottom portion that will later become the water and also made a circle mask for the sun.
With the masks in place, I ink blended on Scattered Straw, then worked my way up the panel using Picked Raspberry and finishing with Festive Berries.
Once all the ‘sky’ was done, I removed the circle mask and lightly added a little Mustard Seed distress ink on the setting sun. Then reversed the mask so it was covering the sky and ink blended the water.
The water was colored with a base of Tumbled Glass, then added Peacock Feathers and a dash of Uncharted Mariner. White lines were added with a white gel pen.
When the panel was dry, I hot foiled in gold the palms using the Papertrey Ink Through The Palms hot foil plate, gold Glimmer foil, and the background panel that was freshly ink blended.
With the background completely done, I set it aside while I made the other tropical pieces.
The Flamingo was next. He is really easy to color and assemble. I used Bristol paper and a few distress inks like: Saltwater Taffy, Worn Lipstick, Abandoned Coral, and a tiny bit of Black Soot for the the eye and peak.
Next, I cut out a variety of leaves and foliage using the awesome Tropical Bouquets die set by Honey Bee Stamps, then colored them with a few greens like Crushed Olive, Rustic Wilderness, and Salvaged Patina. I also cut out a few flowers from the set and lightly ink blended those.
An A2 white cardstock card base was made and the background panel mounted on top. Next, the leaves were arranged and used glue and/or a few foam squares to attach or pop up a few.
Everything was starting to come together – oh goodie, my favorite part!
Foam squares were added to the back of the flamingo and he was put in place. A summery sentiment from the Papertrey Ink Just Sentiments: Summer mini set was stamped using Versafine Black Onyx ink onto a white cardstock strip, then mounted with foam squares.
The flowers were added, along with a few tiny white ones. Nuvo drops was used to add a dash of yellow to the center of the flowers – that completed the picture- YAY!
I hope you enjoyed this splash of summer fun… I hope to see you next time! ♥
