How Sweet!

How Sweet!

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing a new card design that features an adorable bird and a big beautiful flower. This very cheerful stamp set, How Sweet! is brand new for Penny Black, the queen of floral stamps.

The stamp set is actually horizontal but I stamped the flower upright, using Versafine Black Onyx ink, onto a hot-pressed watercolor panel. Then, stamped it again a little lower. With a Post-it note, I did a quick mask job by placing the post-it over the top of the flowers and stamped one of the little birds.

The coloring was simple. I love the loose watercolor look and I thought this card front might be perfect for it. So, I moistened the taller flower first with water, then carefully tapped on a tiny bit of Brusho Alizarin Crimson crystal watercolor. These dry watercolors pack a punch of color so I only needed that tiny bit.

To spread the color, I lightly spritzed it with water, then spread a little more at the base of the flower using my brush. I repeated this same procedure for the second flower. The spritzing disperses the color, even beyond the flower. I like this free-style sort of look.

For the stems, I tapped a little green Brusho onto my glass mat and then painted in the color. The bird was very lightly colored with Hawaiian Shores teal blue and of course, he had to have a red chest!

While the panel was drying, I mounted a black cardstock panel to a white A2 card base. Then, trimmed the floral panel a touch and mounted it on top. To finish, I stamped one of the included sentiments.

We are adding lots of new stamps and dies from Penny Black’s latest release onto our website today so keep a close eye out. It is a fabulous release, loaded with tons of great new products!
