Hi Creative Friends,
Penny Black has a wonderful new release filled with loving sentiments and beautiful blooms! The Love Blooms stamp and matching die set caught my eye and I couldn’t wait to give it a whirl.
I love painting with a little watercolor, especially with beautiful flowers. This set has a lovely blossom with leaves and buds.
Using a stamp positioner, a few distress reinkers (but inkpads work well too), and a piece of hot-pressed watercolor paper, I stamped the flower and buds in Worn Lipstick and the stems in Peeled Paint. I know I just said I used reinkers, and I did, but that was for the painting. When I stamped the outlines I use ink pads. The mini ink pads are especially convenient since they reach into small spaces nicely.
When all the pieces were stamped, using a small, damp brush, I started painting. I used Saltwater Taffy, Picked Raspberry, and Wild Honey for the blossom, and added Lumberjack Plaid and Aged Mahogany for a deeper shading.
The leaves were painted first with Crushed Olive, then Peeled Paint and Evergreen Bough for the shading. By the way, I paint everythingwith my stamped watercolor panel still in place in my stamp positioner. That way, if I need to crisp up any edges, I do it easily by reinking and stamping again,
Once the painting was done and very dry, I cut out the pieces using the coordinating die set, then set them aside while I worked on the background.
I made a 5″x7″ white card stock card base and two (2) matching panels. The first panel was for the background for the flowers to mount on. To this panel, I lightly blended on Peeled Paint and Worn Lipstick, then mounted on the front of the card base.
To the second panel, I cut out the center using Concord & 9th-Kristina Werner A7 thin frame set. This set has a large and small rectangular die, plus a few sentiments. I used the smaller die to cut out the center.
This created a nice border and cut a thin frame too. I will use the thin frame but for now, I set it aside. I will get to that in a minute.
Spritzing the wide border on the back with a light film of water, I used the Spellbinders Leafy 3D embossing folder and ran it through my die-cutting machine. This produced a very beautifully embossed frame.
Then, I placed the thin border back inside the wide border’s edge and taped it in place on the backside. I also cut another thin frame from gold foil paper and glued it on top of the white one. Foam tape was added to the back of this whole assembly, then mounted onto the front of the card base.
The flowers were next. I arranged, trimmed where necessary, and mounted them on the card front using foam squares.
I waited until the end to add the sentiment (risky, I know – if you are crazy like me, be sure to wipe off any excess ink so not to ruin your whole scene). I picked one from the new sentiment set, Loving Friend by Penny Black and stamped it using Worn Lipstick distress ink.
That completes my card design for today. I was so happy to use another Penny Black floral set. They always bring me joy… I hope they do you too! ♥
