Hi Crafty Friends,
Today we are creating a fun Mother’s Day card with a modern freeform flower background and a few more flowers to pop up for dimension and interest. You can use any stamp set you might have with simple centers or flowers but this Neat & Tangled Scandinavian Prints stamp set is a goodie!
Check out the video below for all the ins and outs of this card, then zoom down to the bottom of this post for a complete supply list.
I love creating backgrounds and this one with these modern flowers, colored with distress inks, is a fun one to do. – just stamp, emboss and color. Here is the video with all the details.
The technique is as easy as it sounds. Using a hot pressed watercolor paper panel that was cut using the Whimsy Stamps Hand Stitched Frames, the three flower centers and leaf chosen from the stamp set are stamped with Versamark ink in a random pattern, then colored with distress inks – some distress oxides, and some are just plain old, wonderful distress inks. (see the list in the “Goodies Used” list below)
The sentiment stamp was chosen from the Altenew Wild Hibiscus stamps set and was stamped onto Black Licorice Twist cardstock (my favorite black paper) and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.
A few extra flowers and leaves were stamped onto a scrap of watercolor paper and colored the same as the background. When dry they were fussy cut-out.
With all the pieces ready for assembly, a Robin’s Egg cardstock panel was applied to the white card base, then the floral background on top. The sentiment and extra flowers and leaves were added with a little dimensional tape to give them a nice pop-up look. Black enamel dots were added for accents.
For an extra treat, three flowers were stamped and embossed on the inside of the card, along with a few leaves. They were all colored with the same distress inks as before.
That completes the card for today. I hope you enjoyed it and will join us with our next project ♥ – see you soon!
