Pick-Me-Up Flowers

Pick-Me-Up Flowers

Hi Creative Friends,

Lately, we have been all about making simple, easy-to-make, but fun cards.  It makes for great easy-going summer fun!

The new Pick-Me-Up Turnabout stamp by Concord & 9th makes this card a snap. Then, combine it with a few other sets from their latest release and you have a winner!

The flowery background is what makes this card design! And, the best part is that it is so easy to create.

We started with a few supplies. First,  a 5 7/8″ square piece of white card stock was mounted into our stamp positioner. Next, the acetate positioning grid included in the stamp set was placed over top so it fit squarely over the cardstock. This gave us a guideline to position the stamp so we had perfect placement. As most of you know, this is vital to the success of a turnabout stamp… be sure to remove the guideline before stamping!

With the stamp and paper in place, we inked the stamp with Honeysuckle ink (see supply list) and stamped the paper. We inked and stamped again to get the saturation of the Honeysuckle color we were looking for. When happy with the color, we rotated the paper clockwise one-quarter turn, then repeated the steps but this time we used Nectar ink. We rotated the paper again two more times, each time changing the color. We used Pink Lemonade next, then Grapefruit ink.

Now that the square panel had been turned and stamped a total of 4 times, the background was complete. As you can see, we chose colors very close to one another. We like the sweet subtleness of the colors but we think it would be fabulous too if next time we used more contrasting colors.

With the background done, we turned to make a few flowers and the sentiment. The flowers were made by using the Pretty Sweet dies and a piece of watercolor paper where we had previously swiped on color using Honeysuckle and Buttercup ink cubes (we never throw anything away – ugh!). The centers of the flowers were cut from yellow cardstock included in the Concord & 9th paper pack. We also cut out a few leaves using the die included in the set.

The sentiment was created by using the Cottage Garden stamp and die set. We used Honeysuckle and Grapefruit to give a subtle ombre effect.

The card was assembled by first making an A2-sized white card stock card base, then adding a white panel on top. The flowery background was trimmed down and mounted on top.

To finish, we cut out another sentiment background (using the sentiment die) from a pink paper from the paper pack, then mounted it offset from the stamped sentiment with foam squares.

The sentiment was mounted to the front, along with the few flowers and leaves we just made.

YAY! that completes are project for today. We hope you enjoyed it and it gave you a little summer inspiration!
