Sending Smiles

Sending Smiles

Hi Creative Friends,

I have always loved the Smile All Day stamp set by Penny Black. It is filled with all sorts of adorable critters. You got to love the cute little hedgehogs but I especially love the fox and hedge in this stamp set.

I started with a 5×7″ panel of cold-pressed watercolor paper, my stamp positioner, the stamp, and a handful of distress inks and paintbrushes.

I stamped the fox and hedgehog with watercolor-proof ink. My all-time fave is Versafine Black Onyx, then let it dry before I jumped in to paint.

Now ready to paint, I started with the sky. Using a very watery mixture of Blueprint Sketch ink, I colored the sky. I only colored around the critters as I wanted a more vignette-type look.

I began painting the critters next. I used Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo distress inks for the fox, with a tinge of Black Soot for his legs and feet and Worn Lipstick for his cheeks.

For the hedgehog, I used Lost Shadow, Black Soot, and Vintage Photo for his fur and Worn Lipstick for his face and tender parts. The letter was colored with Worn Lipstick and the flower with a mixture of Blueprint Sketch and Worn Lipstick.

Once the critters were painted, I colored the grassy areas with first Crushed Olive, then Peeled Paint distress ink.

The darling critters were done. All that was left was to mount the panel onto a 5×7 ” (when folded) cream card base and stamp the sentiment. I used one from the Thinking of You stamp set and stamped it with Versafine Black Onyx ink.

The card was done and I am pleased as punch to have a cute card ready to send some cheer!
