Hi Creative Friends,
Do you ever need a fun and light-hearted card for the winter and holidays? This new stamp set, Snow Cute from Penny Black, is packed full of adorable stamps to do just that. And, the best part is it features a favorite critter of ours…bears!
This card design is an easy workup. It all begins with an A2 Bristol paper card panel and an A2 white card base.
Starting with the Bristol paper panel, we stamped the bears and the snowman onto the panel using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. At the same time, we stamped the same critters onto a piece of masking paper. Our favorite is Eclipse paper. It is like having a giant roll of continuous post-it notes, it’s awesome! But, we have also listed another masking paper in case you like it better!
We cut out the critters and snowman from the masking paper and mounted them over top of the stamped images so they would be protected while we ink blend. We also masked off the ‘snow’ area to make sure no ink got on our pristine, white ‘snow’ while we were ink blending.
Next, we applied a thin layer of Saltwater Taffy distress ink onto the sky area, then added Picked Raspberry distress ink in most areas to deepen the color. Once done, we removed the masks and revealed our adorable characters.
The bears and snowman were lightly colored using Copic alcohol markers. In case you are interested, here are the colors used:
- Snowman – BG0000, BG15, Y17, YR16
- Bears – W1, W3, RV10, YG03, YG17, BG15, BG34
To complete the scene, we stamped a simple sentiment we found in the Jolly Snippets stamp set using Saltwater Taffy distress ink. Then, added falling snow by placing the Snowfall stencil over the panel and spreading matte texture paper over the top, using a palette knife.
While the ‘snow’ was drying, we cut a plaid paper frame (any matching patterned paper will do!) and added foam tape to the back. Now that the panel was dry, we pressed the frame in place. To finish, we added the panel to the card base… Viola! we are done! ♥
