Hi Crafty Friends,
Woohoo! Papertrey Ink – Ink to Paper’s new products for May are out and ready to go! There are loads of fun stamps and dies to delight you. I was smitten with the Summer Shells die set. They are so much fun to create with and there are a tons of ways you can use them!
For this card design, I decided to place each large shells on its own square and showcase them individually. But, first things first, I started with creating the background. This was done by stamping the Weaved Background stamp twice (side by side to make it bigger) with Versamark ink and the help of a stamp positioner onto a piece of chipboard. Once stamped, I heat embossed it with white embossing powder.
With the background done, I started working on the shells and their squares. For the squares, I cut 4 – 1.75″ square from 110lb. white card stock then swiped it with Iced Spruce distress ink. Once dry, I randomly swiped white ink (Fresh Snow or Yeti ink — my two favs) work great (see supply list below) stripes. This muted the color but I wanted a little more so I used Dr. Ph. Martin Bleedproof ink and brushed on random short lines until I achieved the look I was going for.
Next, I cut two sets of shells using 110lb. white card stock. I stacked one shell on top of the other and glued them together. With a small blending brush, I added patches of ink. I used Bright Buttercup, Summer Sunrise, Honey Nut, and Hawaiian Shores.
To assemble, starting with a 5″ square Soft Stone card base, I trimmed and mounted the Weaved background on top. Next, I mounted the squares with foam tape, spacing them equal distance apart.
Since the shells were already double thickness, I glued them directly onto each square, then embellished them with Nuvo Ivory Seashell drops and self-adhesive half pearls. To create the look of sand, I dotted some glue in strategic areas and sprinkled Twinkle Dust then smeared dots of gold stickles.
The last bits to finish were the sentiment and hemp cord. The sentiment from the Just Sentiments: Summer stamp set was stamped onto a strip of white card stock using True Black ink. I trimmed the ends with deckle scissors and mounted it with foam tape. Finally, I wound a natural hemp cord around the top and tied a bow! ♥
