Summer Vibes

Summer Vibes

Hi Creative Friends,

It’s time for lazy summers and the ocean breeze. Even if you are not near a beach, hopefully this card design takes you there and you can feel the breeze on your face.

This card features some of the newest die sets from Moda Scrap, an Italian crafting company. They make the most brilliant die set including these, Waving Elements, and Sea Charms.

Moda Scrap has some of the best-designed and thought-out dies we have seen. It makes it soooo easy to make a cute card in just a few minutes!

So, to get started, I am using four different cardstock papers, each cut to 5 inches square. Using the Waving Elements dies and beginning with the largest die in the set, I centered it on Bristol cardstock, then ran it through my die cutting machine. Then working my way from largest to smallest, I cut the second largest from Mint Julep, making sure to center the die as before. For the last Waving elements die, I used one of the papers from the Memory Box Stormy Blue collection. Then for my last cardstock square, I chose a coordinating paper from the same Stormy Blue collection.

I stacked the three blue cardstock squares I just cut. This created a cool-looking pool of water. For the white Bristol paper square, I blended Antique Linen over all of it.  Then added bits of Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge to create a sandy beach look. To make it more realistic, I first splattered clean water onto the square and blotted it off. This gives a more mottled look. Then splattered small dots of Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge, along with a few Black Soot dots. It was set aside to dry.

In the meantime, I cut out a variety of sea creatures from the Moda Scrap Sea Charms from Bristol paper, except for turtles and a sprig of seaweed. They were cut from a scrap of Juicy Pear green.

Each of these ‘creatures’ was colored by blending on ink. The fish and coral were colored with Ripe Persimmon distress ink and the starfish and shells were colored with Antique Linen, Rusty Hinge, and a touch of Vintage Photo distress inks. The turtles and seaweed were colored with Rustic Wilderness.

The sea creatures, coral, and seaweed were glued into place. The turtles were added with a few foam squares.

I stamped the sentiment onto a strip of white cardstock using my favorite ink for words, Versafine Blac Onyx ink. I then colored the strip with Vintage Photo distress ink and added a few squiggly lines to mimic a wood plank. One edge was cut into a jagged edge. The strip was mounted with a few foam squares to finish.

I hope you enjoyed this card and you give these awesome dies a whirl. They are beautifully designed making it a breeze to use and create!
