Thinking of You

Hi Creative Friends,

Papertrey Ink has a splendid collection of bird stamps and dies. The one I chose for this card design is one of the very latest, Feathered Friends 22 Mini stamp and die set. This little bird has long, graceful tail feathers and a beautiful decorative body. This sweet bird was a delight to make and the accompanying branch and flower stamps make it that much more special!

Whenever I create a bird from the Papertrey Ink collection, I find that it takes on a personality of its own. I chose the overall color, in this case, blue. From there, I just let the bird evolve as I stamped each section.

I also used watercolor paper so that I could spritz the inked stamp right before stamping, letting the colors blend with each other.

In the supply list below you will see all the colors I used. I used all of them except Melon Berry.

After the bird was finished and dry, I cut it out with the coordinating die, then set it aside.

With a watercolor panel mounted in my stamp positioner, I arranged the branch and stamped it first with Lovely Lady pink ink. I know that may seem weird but I thought in the end, it really added to the look of the branch. To finish the branch, I used Weathervane and Blueberry Sky.

There was one more step to finish this panel. I blended on Speckled Egg ink with a blending brush. I went right over the branch to blend the ink, then splattered the panel with Speckled Egg and Weathervane ink.

Next, on a separate piece of watercolor paper, I stamped the flowers with Lovely Lady and a little Melon Berry, then added in the stamens with Autumn Rose. Each flower was cut out.

To assemble the card, I mounted a textured Muslin paper panel to a white card stock card base. Then added a slightly larger panel of Indigo cardstock to the back of the watercolored branch, then backed it with a thin panel of foam.

Next, I added this whole assembly onto the textured paper card front, then stamped a sentiment I found in the new Capitivating Cattails stamp set. I used Weathervane ink for that.

To finish, I mounted the bird and flowers with a bit of foam tape.
