Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here

Hi Crafty Friends,

It is the middle of the month… just in time for a brand new release from Papertrey Ink. We are warming up the parade of card designs that will come in the next 30 days with a simple one using the new stamps and dies “Walk With Me“. It is accompanied by the Just Sentiments: Wish You Were Here stamp set.

Who doesn’t love going to the beach to soak up some rays, warm sand, and the lapping of the ocean? That’s what this card design says to me. And it all starts with a simple dimensional wave pattern. It is done by using the new Wavy Lines stencil by My Favorite Things, some Nuvo Moonstone Glimmer paste (Gina K Designs Glitz Glitter Gel works great too), and a dash of color from Honey Nut and Tropical Teal (check out the supply list below)!

So, I began by placing two smears of Glimmer Paste onto my glass mat (you don’t need much), then smooched a patch of Honey Nut ink near one pile of Glitter Paste and Tropical Teal near the other. Then, using my palette knife, I mixed each group of paste with a color so I ended up with a sand-colored group and a teal-colored one. Then, working quickly so the paste doesn’t dry out, I placed the stencil diagonally over the top of the white panel and smeared first the ‘sand’ paste, then the blue.

While the paste was drying (and it only takes a minute or so), I took out the Walk With Me stamp and die set. There are lots of summer shoes in this set but of course, I needed the sandals for the beach.

I placed the soles of the sandals onto an acrylic block inked it with Honey Nut, and stamped it onto a scrap of white cardstock. Next, I stamped the next layer, which was the straps of the sandals, on top of the soles, using the same Honey Nut ink. I then colored the straps with Copic alcohol markers. I started with the lightest color  R01, then worked my way through the few colors, using the darkest color on the edges. All the colors used were: R01, R20, R22, and RV06. I very simply outlined the buckles with a gold pen and finished the sandals by cutting them out using the matching die set.

By the way, if you don’t want to color them with markers, no worries… there are matching stamps in the set that help you color them. I just used the markers so I could do a little shading.

With the sandals done and the wave panel dry, I went back to the main construction of the card. Using a white card stock card base, I added a panel of Harvest Gold striped Bitty Big paper on top, then mounted the wave panel on top by first mounting a foam panel on the back, then popping it onto the striped panel.

Before I added the sandals, I inked the sentiment with True Black ink and stamped it in the corner. Finally, the sandals were added with a bit of foam tape, and the card was done!!

I think I set a personal-best record as the fastest card I have made 🙂!  The little bit of shimmer from the paste and the wave stencil just makes it!
