Wooded Scenic Path

Wooded Scenic Path

HI there,

Today I am sharing a card design that features the NEW and beautiful cover plate by Papertrey Ink – Ink To Paper called Scenic Path. It creates an image of a nature lover’s paradise with a lovely path inviting you into the woods.

This cover plate cuts out the whole scene for you in one fell swoop. It is up to you where you go from there. For this project I chose to cut it out of hot-pressed watercolor paper, then watercolor all the parts.

So, for the water coloring process, I used Papertrey Ink inks for all the colors and a small brush for most of the painting. For green foliage colors I used were Spring Moss, New Leaf, Ocean Tides, and Pine Feather. The tiny little flowers were colored with Hibiscus Burst and Raspberry Fizz. For the trees and sky, I used Cocoa Bean and Weathervane. Finally, the sky was painted with Blueberry Sky and Bright Buttercup.

Since I usually work on a glass mat (my fav!) I used it as my paint palette by smooching each color I was using at the time onto the mat and added water to dilute or create different gradations of color. Then, when I was finished, it was a super easy task to clean by just wiping it off with a moist paper towel.

Once all the painting was done and it was dry, I did something really crazy. I decided to pop up all the trees and foliage by adding slivers of foam tape to the back of the trees and gluing down the sky and path to the card base. This took a bit of time but I love the result.

Once that was done, to add a little more brightness to the scene, I cut out a few more ‘tiny flowers’ from a scrap of watercolor paper, painted them, then glued them to the leaves.

I added a sentiment that I found in the Just Sentiments: Appreciation mini stamp set and stamped it onto white card stock with True Black ink. Then added a sweet little deer from the Penny Black’s Natures Beauty die set that I had cut from white card stock again and colored with a couple of Copic markers.

I hope you enjoyed this design. For me, I am excited to send this card to my sister who lives in one of the many majestic redwood forests near us. I think she will love it!
