Well, it is the end of the month, can you believe it? And, it is the last day for our Simply IrRESISTible card challenge… so hurry and get your entries in today!!

To add our final example of the emboss resist technique, here is a simple card with big impact due to the fabulous Rice Paddies stencil by Neat & Tangled.

This card is all about its background, and it is easily created by first prepping a piece of watercolor paper with anti-static powder, then stamping one side of the stencil thorughly with Versamark ink, laying it carefully face down on the paper and then running it through your die cutting machine. Because there are no cutting edges to the stencil, it doesn’t cut the paper but rather embosses it and inks it all at the same time. Next, sprinkle clear embossing powder and heat set… You are now ready to color!

I brushed clear, clean water onto the entire paper and begin adding the blue, purple, gray watercolors. Be sure to keep the colors a little separate or they may mix into a muddy brown. See how the color goes only where the embossing powder isn’t.

After the panel was dry, I trimmed the panel and mounted it onto a purple matting background, then onto a gray card base.

For the sentiment, I cut one “Happy” from black, white and gray cardstock and mounted each with foam tape and added the hand-lettered ‘birthday’ to complete this emboss resist technique card.
