Sweet Vintage Rose By Heather Telford

Sweet Vintage Rose By Heather Telford

Hi Friends,

To get us ready for Valentine’s Day, our guest today, Heather Telford has created an elegant card with a vintage feel using the Penny Black Red Blush stamp , Brusho colors and a few inks. Heather’s technique achieves the most beautiful colors and textures. Take a look below to read how she does it, then pop over to her blog for more inspiration!

Happy New Year everyone; it is lovely to be posting here at The Foiled Fox blog again. I have a vintage style card to share today featuring some Penny Black stamps, Ranger inks and a tiny touch of brusho paint.

I began this card by stamping the Penny Black ‘red blush’ stamp in vintage photo distress ink on hot pressed watercolor paper. Distress ink reacts easily with water so it is perfect for this vintage technique. I started by painting inside one petal. I didn’t need to add any extra ink, instead I used a small watercolor brush dipped in water to pull the color from the outline stamping to fill the petal. While the petal was wet I picked up some Ost. Red brusho paint and dropped it in to blend with the brown vintage photo ink. To use brusho as a liquid paint I just sprinkled some on my craft mat and added a little water. I used the same method to fill another petal but made sure to work on one not adjacent to the first. By leaving a petal to dry before painting the one next door I was able to limit the blurring of the outlines. I switched back and forth between petals and leaves occasionally drying the panel with the heat tool if I was impatient.

After the rose was painted I used the linen stamp from the Penny Black ‘textures’ set to add some background to the panel. I kept the stamp in the stamping platform and moved the panel up and down to keep the linen stamps in line with each other. I spritzed over the stamping to blur it and create some watermarks then dried the panel before adding some vintage photo ink splatter. Finally, I added a sentiment from the Penny Black ‘forever & always’ set with VersaFine vintage sepia ink. I matted the panel in a dark brown to match the sentiment and attached it to a cream card base.

Thank you for visiting here today. I’ll be back to have more fun with the Foiled Fox crew soon.
