Hi Everyone,
It’s all coming up poppies today! The beautiful single poppy flower of the Dynamic stamp and the Poppy Pattern background stamp by Penny Black worked perfect for this card.
To begin, the background was stamped onto Neenah solar white card stock using the Penny Black Poppy Pattern stamp and Versafine Smokey Gray ink, then set aside.
The centerpiece of this card is the big beautiful poppy blossom from the Penny Black Dynamic stamp. This poppy was stamped onto watercolor paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Clear, clean water was then applied to the blossom first and rich reds and orange watercolors, with hints of yellow were added to the flower. Next, the stem and leaves were colored by first brushing on clear, clean water, then adding a few different shades of green watercolors. The poppy was set aside to dry.
Now that the poppy is dry, it was time to cut it out the flower close to the embossed edge and add Black Diamond Stickles and a few Nuvo gold crystal drops to the center for interest and texture.
To complete the card, I started with a rust colored card base and added a strip of patterned paper next to a white panel on top.
I didn’t want to attach the cut-out poppy directly to the poppy background so I added a strip of vellum where I had randomly spread the Pearl Viva Decor Modeling Creme through the Tim Holtz mini circle stencil from Set #5 to create a tone-on-tone texture.
After the modeling creme was dry (it set up fast), the vellum strip was positioned across the poppy panel and attached on the back with tape and the poppy background and vellum strip were placed on top the base.
The cut-out poppy was attached with foam tape and a tag from the Penny Black This Way label stamp and die set was made with Sugar Wafer gray card stock and the border was stamped on with Versamark ink and white heat embossed. “Imagine” was then hand-lettered as the sentiment… but any short sentiment stamp would work equally well. Black DMC thread was added and the sentiment attached with foam tape and VIOLA! …done!
I hope you have enjoyed visiting today. I will see you again real soon.
