Christmas Eve Night

Christmas Eve Night

Hi Creative Friends,

For everyone in the U.S., we hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and you were able to share it with friends and family! The day after Thanksgiving marks the official start of the holiday season, and we are kicking it off with a still, snowy Christmas Eve Night scene.

We began with a 5×7 hot-pressed watercolor panel and taped off the edges using Spellbinders 5/8″ Best Ever Craft Tape. This will create a lovely border around the scene. With the tape in place, we stamped the row of trees and houses from the new Penny Black Quiet Beauty stamp. using a waterproof ink like Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. We then cut a circle mask for the moon (a couple of our favorite mask materials are in the supply list below) and restamped the row of trees and houses onto masking paper so that the tops of the row can be fussy cut.

With the mask over the row of trees and houses and the circle for the moon, we ink blended on first Faded Jeans distress ink, then Chipped Sapphire. When the sky was done, the moon mask was removed, but the row mask remained. From there, we stamped numerous trees using the smallest tree stamp in the Prancers stamp set, varying the ink color. We used a few Concord & 9th inks such as Rainforest, Juniper, and Parsley. A couple of additional trees were added in the foreground as well.

The houses were tiny, so we used Tombow pens in the small areas and blended them slightly with a damp brush.

To add a snowy shadow, we ripped the edge of a piece of copy paper, then used it as an edging mask to add little bits of Chipped Sapphire along the row and under the trees in the foreground. A little more Chipped Sapphire was ink-blended on the lower edges to define the borders. We didn’t forget to use the moon mask to add definition to the moon.

We were almost done; we just had to add Santa and his reindeer, and a sentiment. Since Santa was in a scene of its own, we positioned the Santa’s Visit stamp in our stamp positioner just right, then colored only Santa and his reindeer with a black Tombow marker and stamped. The sentiment from the Wonders of Christmas stamp set by Honey Bee Stamps was stamped with Nocturne ink.

Before removing the tape, we splattered white splatter ink by flicking off our brush with our finger until we achieved the right amount of snowfall.

Now ready for the great reveal, we removed the tape and mounted the panel to an Alabaster card base. for our last step to complete our Christmas Eve night!
