It’s Time…

It’s Time…

Hi there,

It is nearly Father’s Day! To commemorate and celebrate, I am sharing a card design for the occasion. I used a great set from Papertrey Ink called It’s Time. It has an old-timey clock face with lots of options. I chose to go vintage for a vintage guy!

Since this stamp and die set has a vintage vibe, I leaned into that vision and created a textured, mixed-media background.

Starting with a few distress oxide inks, a piece of Bristol paper for easy ink blending, and a few blending brushes, I started creating the mottled background. Antique Linen went on first, then bits of Fossilized Amber and Rusty Hinge were added in spots. I added more depth by stenciling on some numbers and a crackled background (only in spots, mind you) using the Tim Holtz mini stencil set #2 and Hickory Smoke and Ground Espresso. Finally, I added streaks and spots of Blueprint Sketch. It sounds like a chaotic mess, doesn’t it? But remember, the whole idea was to create a mottled look.

With the base background complete, I used another stencil in the set to stencil clock parts with Grit Paste, let it dry, and added spots of white Solar Paste on top of the grit paste. This highlighted the stenciled bit.

To complete the background, I cut an A2-sized postage-edged panel from Truffle brown cardstock, mounted it on an Alabaster card base, and then added the newly made mixed media panel on top.

Turning my attention to the focal point, I stamped and cut out the clock face, using a piece of Alabaster cream cardstock and the It’s Time stamp set to add color. I used Antique Linen as my main color, then Tea Dye and a dash of Rusty Hinge. The numbers and hands were stamped in Nocturne black, then cut out using the coordinating dies. To make the hands moveable,. I mounted a mini brad, then mounted onto a slightly larger Antique Gold cardstock circle cut using a fluted die set, then onto the card front. Sadly, I didn’t realize until it was too late that the fluted die set is no longer available, but the postage-edged one in the supply list is a good substitute.

The clock was mounted, and the sentiment (one from the set) was mounted to complete the design.

Thanks for joining me today. I hope today’s project gave you a little spark of inspiration!
