A Pool of Lovely Lotus

A Pool of Lovely Lotus

Hi Crafty Friends,

I was so excited to share with you the lovely Layering Lotus sets from Concord & 9th. You can use the sets separately, or combine them to create your special project or multiple ones. These sets are so wonderful; I know I will be making many cards with it!

To begin, I started with the background. My goal was to create a pool of water for the beautiful lotus to float on top. So, using a Bristol paper panel (for easy ink blending), I first blended on a layer of Speckled Egg distress ink, then added more layers of color using Faded Jeans, Uncharted Mariner, and Artichoke (a Concord & 9th ink). Once done, I used the Lotus card front to create an imprint of little lotuses.

Hint: Embossing with a die-cut plate is easy. Just use your rubber mat on the bottom of your die-cut ‘sandwich’ and adjust the tension by varying your top layer thickness with different materials. I often use a felt top instead of the plastic cutting plate on top. It works swimmingly!

The background panel was mounted onto a white cardstock panel and card base, then I got to work on the flowers.

I used Bristol paper again for the lotus flowers, then colored the tips and bases of the flower parts with Grapefruit and a touch of Wildberry at the very tip. The leaves were colored with Artichoke green and a dash of Cobblestone to shade. When done, all the flowers were assembled.

The hardest part of the whole card was the layout. Trying not to look contrived, I used 5 flowers in an irregular pattern, as if they were floating on the pond water.

The sentiment was the last. The Layered Lotus die set has some awesome shapes perfect for stamping a sentiment. I used Juniper blue-green ink to stamp my sentiment (from the sentiment set) and couldn’t resist also stamping a tiny lotus blossom on top.

This card was so much fun to make. I highly recommend giving it a whirl!
