Hi Crafty Friends,
I am sharing a beautiful new stamp from Pinkfresh Studio called Joyful Peonies. It features a lovely meandering pattern of peonies that I thought would be perfect for water coloring. Then, to complete the picture, I combined it with the Simply Diamonds die. I am in love with this die! You will be seeing a lot of it but for now, I thought it was a perfect match for the peonies.
I began by prepping a piece of watercolor paper with generous amounts of anti-static powder. I prefer hot-pressed watercolor paper for this so I used my favorite, Fabriano Artistico Extra White paper (see supply list).
Then using Versamark ink, I stamped two sets of peonies onto the paper, sprinkled on Rose Gold embossing powder, tapped off the excess, and heat embossed it. This left me with a gorgeous outline of flowers to paint.
You can use any watercolors you have. I used the Altenew watercolor pan set. This set has 36 luscious colors to choose from though I only used four colors, a bright rosy red, orange, yellow, and a light and dark green.
While the paint was drying, I cut out three Simple Diamonds panels from Neenah white cardstock, then stacked and glued them together. This gives dimension without having to use foam tape. I then added an Easter Grass green panel of cardstock to the back and set it aside.
The flowers were dry and ready to cut. There is a matching die for this stamp that cuts out the flowers as a whole but I wanted the flowers to be more separate so, with a pair of detail scissors, I cut around each flower grouping.
I arranged the flowers onto the lattice, gluing them down at the edges and strategic places where they intersected with the lattice pattern. Then, I trimmed off the excess flower bits around the edges of the lattice and mounted this whole panel to a slightly larger white cardstock card base.
The flowers on the lattice were beautiful on their own but I did add a rose-gold embossed sentiment from the Smiles stamp set by Penny Black to finish the card.
I really enjoyed doing a little water coloring and these flowers were a joy. I hope you give it a try! ♥
