Hi Creative Friends,
Today I am sharing a cheery floral card using one of my favorite flower die sets, Happy Flowers by Moda Scrap. This set has so many beautifully detailed flower dies, big and small plus some foliage dies, making it one of the most versatile sets I have. I can’t tell you how many times I reach for it. It’s awesome!
To make this card I started out with an A2-sized card stock card base and an A2-sized watercolor paper panel. To color the panel, I spritzed it with water, then painted on Speckled Egg distress ink. I made an effort to make the edges a little darker, leaving the middle lighter. After the panel was painted, I splattered water and blotted it up with a paper towel. This gave it a more mottled look. It was set aside to dry.
In the meantime, using the Happy flowers die set, I cut out some flowers and foliage from white card stock and some flowers from watercolor paper. The watercolor paper flowers were then spritzed with water, then some were painted with Worn Lipstick and others with Berry Sorbet ink (see supply list below). The tiny flowers were colored with Mustard Seed distress ink. I also cut out a frame using the Spellbinders Fluted Rectangles and white card stock.
Before assembly, there was one more thing to do… the sentiment. Using the Papertrey Ink Perfect Pairs: Essentials stamp and die set (another awesome set to have in your stash!) I cut out two ‘hello’s’ from Hibiscus card stock, then stamped one of them with the ‘hello’ stamp with Versamark ink. It was white heat embossed, then stacked with the other cut out to give it a little lift.
To put this whole thing together, I mounted the watercolor background panel to the front of my card base, then started to arrange all the different flowers and foliage. Once it was the way I wanted it, I glued each one onto the background, along with the sentiment. I trimmed off any extra flower and foliage bits hanging off the edge of the background, then added the fluted frame on top.
With a black Kuretake Zig Mangaka pen (or a Pigma Micron pen works great too), I added a few dots of varying sizes here and there and added a few pearls and/or sequin from Alexandra Renke to the center of a few flowers to complete the card.
I really enjoyed making this card and love the colors. But with that said, I think this design would be fabulous in bright colors too! ♥
